Doane University awards 385 degrees to May graduates

On Saturday, May 15, more than 400 students walked across the stage set up inside Fuhrer Fieldhouse in Crete to receive their diplomas. Doane University proudly awarded 385 degrees to students who graduated in spring 2021, in addition to degrees presented to students who were unable to walk due to ceremony cancellations in 2020 or who will complete their degree this summer.

Lifelong learning and leading at Lighthouse

 

Growing up in Lincoln in the 1990s, Bill Michener never imagined he would graduate from college at all, much less twice in four years to receive both his undergraduate degree and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Doane. Now, Michener is the executive director of Lighthouse, a Lincoln-based after-school program, and uses his experiences to help Nebraska youth.

Featured Grad: Haylee Heits '21

 

Haylee Heits is one of Doane University’s featured May graduates. With her Doane degree in hand, Haylee is going start school in June at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa to get her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree.

Doane Alumni Office names new Director of Alumni Engagement

The Doane Alumni Office announced its new Director of Alumni Engagement, Michael Stehlik ’07.
 

Mike graduated from Doane in 2007, double majoring in business administration (with a marketing emphasis) and sociology.
 

He began working for Doane in January of 2010 in the Service Bureau, eventually splitting time between the Service Bureau and the marketing office until being named the Supervisor of the Service Bureau in 2015. In 2019, Mike was hired as the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement where he has gained hands-on experience and knowledge of the alumni office over the past two years.
 

Mike looks forward to this new role and is excited to serve the university, its students, employees, and, of course, alumni moving forward.

 

ATHLETICS

Doane University welcomes new Athletic Director, Mark Wateska

Doane University is excited to announce that Mark Wateska has been selected to serve as the university's next Director of Athletics. Wateska comes to Doane from Stetson University where he has served as the Director of Strength and Conditioning since 2015.

"The opportunity to lead the athletic department at Doane University where I can have a positive impact not only on the student-athletes, but coaches and staff is something I have strived for and is a natural progression for me," says Wateska. "Working alongside President Hughes, who I have grown to know and respect, and has a great understanding  of both academics and athletics, is a very exciting opportunity and one that I look forward to."

Summer 2021 COVID-19 Mask Update

Effective Monday, May 24, 2021, Doane University has updated its mask policy in accordance with new interim recommendations for fully vaccinated individuals. This update from the CDC states that “fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any setting, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance”.

Therefore, masks are optional for fully vaccinated Doane faculty, staff, and students.
