Doane awards 191 degrees to December graduates

Despite being unable to hold an in-person Commencement ceremony due to COVID-19, Doane University has proudly awarded 191 degrees to its December graduates.

Doane to provide free COVID-19 testing to Crete campus students in January

 

Doane will be providing salvia-based PCR COVID-19 testing, free of charge, to Crete campus students upon their return in January. The testing is required for all students living on campus and all student-athletes.

Jeff Johnson ’88 named Interim Director of Athletics

 

Doane named Jeff Johnson Interim Director of Athletics earlier this month. Johnson is a 1988 Doane graduate who recently retired after most recently serving as Principal at Papillion La Vista South High School. Johnson served as AD and Assistant Principal at Papio South from 2002-2013 before becoming Principal.

Featured Grad: Cole Bruns ’20

 

Cole Bruns is one of Doane University's featured graduates this December. Cole has taken advantage of Doane's Degree+ offering, completing two MBA courses during his senior year. Cole plans to finish the MBA program at Doane this summer.

Featured Grad: Basim Alali ’20L

 

Basim Alali is one of Doane University's featured graduates this December. Basim took courses on the Lincoln campus, majoring in Business Administration. He is also set to soon complete the Nebraska Dev Lab Pipeline Program, a collaboration between Doane & Don't Panic Labs, a local software development company.

Michelle Sabata ’95L

Michelle Sabata, a 1995 Doane graduate, was recently appointed by Gov. Pete Ricketts to the Separate Juvenile Court of Lancaster County. Sabata has served as Deputy County Attorney in the Lancaster County Attorney's Office since 1998. As Deputy County Attorney, her primary duties included reviewing investigations to make charging decisions in law violation and abuse/neglect cases on behalf of juveniles. Sabata earned her bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Doane and she earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law. 

ATHLETICS

MBB plays at Nebraska for 2nd consecutive year

The Doane men's basketball team played the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Pinnacle Bank Arena for the second consecutive year. Doane picked up a last-minute game with the Huskers after Nebraska was seeking another opponent to make up for a previous cancellation. The Huskers won 110-64 but Doane only trailed by four points 10 minutes into the game. The next game for the Tigers is January 2nd vs. Dakota Wesleyan. (photo courtesy: Nebraska Athletics)

Dean's List

The Dean's List for the Fall 2020 semester was recently unveiled at Doane. This year, 269 students qualified. Students must achieve a minimum 3.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale and hold 12 graded hours to qualify for this academic distinction. The Fall 2020 Dean's List can be seen here.

Renshaw ’19 receives John Goddard Prize for Environmental Leadership

Zach Renshaw, a 2019 Doane graduate, recently received a John Goddard prize, which is awarded to enterprising young people pursuing environmental projects. The New Leaders Initiative, a program dedicated to identifying, supporting, and sustaining young environmental leaders, administers the Goddard prize. Renshaw received the recognition for his contributions to Doane's sustainability master plan. Renshaw also helped lead the movement to have Doane become the first university in Nebraska to commit to divesting in fossil fuels, a resolution the Board of Trustees approved in May of 2019.
