Breaking the Glass Ceiling on Women's Golf
|
Laurie Glass, ‘78, was both the first woman to play golf at Doane and the first woman to be a student athletic trainer. But when she started school in 1974, Doane didn’t have a women’s golf team. Instead, she joined the men’s team — and helped Tiger golf attain conference and district success.

Casey Fries has a new take on the one-room schoolhouse. In fact, he is now the principal of more than 750 one-room schools — all located in the homes of students registered for Lincoln Public Schools’ new remote learning program.

|
Foster Collins ‘20 rides an ATV while administering a prescribed burn as part of a safety and conservation effort in the state of Georgia. These prescribed burns are used to clear underbrush to reduce the risk of wildfires, knock back invasive hardwood trees, and encourage the growth of longleaf pines.

Renee Lukowicz '21
|
Renee Lukowicz ‘21 became the first four-time All-American for the Tigers as she received honorable mention honors this year for dance.
In late February, Lukowicz was named a GPAC All-Conference selection for the fourth time, also marking the first time a dance member has earned four honors within the conference.

Doane holds COVID-19 vaccine
clinic for employees
|
On Friday, March 19, Doane University held a COVID-19 vaccine clinic in Crete for all Doane employees. From 12-3:30 pm the Haddix Center gym served as a vaccine clinic where Doane faculty and staff were able to receive their first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Any employee who was unable to attend the onsite vaccination clinic can set up an individual appointment with Public Health Solutions in Crete after March 22.

Dr. Glenn Mitchell '70 to speak at Polk Lectureship on Race and Social Justice
|
The sixth annual Robert. L Polk Lectureship on Race and Social Justice will feature Dr. Glenn Mitchell, class of ‘70, for the event at 7 p.m. Monday, March 29. Mitchell, principal of Memorial High School in Port Arthur, Texas, will speak on “The Status of African Americans, Then and Now, What has Changed.” The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion and live Q&A session with Peter Ferguson, youth development coordinator for Lincoln Public Schools; T.J. McDowell, assistant vice chancellor for student affairs for student life and leadership at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln; and Dr. Jamar Dorsey, director of community engagement and high school partnerships with Avenue Scholars in Omaha.
